20 Best Chemical Free Nail Polish (2024 Update)

2 coats on clean dry nails lasted nearly 2 weeks! I am always thrilled to find a new, ecologically conscientious and vegan product and this is one is new to me because I only found it recently after trying several other vegan and hypoallergenic nail polishes. As ecologically conscientious is quite often synonymous with hypoallergenic because the basis of both philosophies is to exclude agitating toxic chemicals I am assured the Karma nail polish will not cause my highly sensitive skin any unnecessary agitation while providing me with a mind soothing manicure to realign my mood and psyche without any ill effects on the environment. As hypoallergenic nail treatment goes Karma is putting out pretty colors which did live up to my expectations, causing no allergic reaction whatsoever which assures me that they are high quality and earth friendly because I have had many serious and minor allergic reactions to the overwhelming majority of beauty products but Karma caused no allergic reaction whatsoever to date. I hope Karma will continue to put out additional varieties of hypoallergenic, non-agitating vegan nail polish and although I do not like any face make up more of these hypoallergenic products for the face such as foundation, blush, eyeliner and mascara would allow my neighbor's child, who likes to do other peoples faces, the opportunity to experiment on me for as long as I have the patience to sit through her detailed attention. The other vegan nail polish I have tried is equal in value to this and I would recommend all the vegan nail polish brands with equal confidence, including Karma, Pacifica and Mineral Fusion. They all last just as long as regular nail polish, have higher quality top coats because they are nonirritating, and a beautiful array of both playful and traditional colors. This review is for Sally Hansen Revive Peel off Nail Mask. I’ve never used a nail mask before. The smell is a lovely coconut scent similar to the Colourpop SOL body highlighters. It smells like a coconutty sun screen and summer goodness. The applicator is very nice as well, it reminds me of Charlotte Tilbury highlighter/contour products that come out of a spongey applicator tip. The product itself is even shimmery gold like a beautiful facial cosmetic product would be, but this is just for your finger tips and nails! I do my nails entirely at home these days, and sometimes my cuticles give it away. I noticed they looked a lot more calm, flush against my fingertips/nails, like healthy hydrated cuticles should look. The only complaints: I don’t think my sample contains the hyaluronic acid it boasts elsewhere (I’ve read and reread the ingredients list of the product I was sent and compared it to the ingredients list online), and mine wouldn’t peel off very easily. The instructions say to apply a “small amount” and “thin layer” to each nail/finger tip/cuticle, but that’s too subjective. I applied too thin and it wouldn’t peel off my nail. I got better results from applying enough product to reach the gold pigmentation of the product’s opacity, then it peeled off easier. Either way, you can just rinse it off, too. I rarely write reviews but I have to say this is my absolute new favorite nail polish! I thought that it being natural would result in less durability but I was a soap wrong. Regular nail polish lasts me about a week at the most. With the Sally Hansen natural mail strengthener underneath, two coats of this polish and a quick-drying top coat from another brand, this has lasted a week and a half now and doesn’t show any sign of chipping. I love this nail polish! And I love the brush as well— the width makes application so very quick and easy! Love love love!!!!In the City

I really love the vibrant colour. It looks great when applied and is also easy to apply. It has lasted quite well on my toenails. Unfortunately on fingernails it scratches and wears off very quickly – more quickly then ordinary varnishes. Usually I am not one to spend money on nail polish since I wear them so selectively but figured that I would give this one a shot since the ingredients are wonderful! Really impressed with the quality. Only a bit of sparkle/shine on this particular color and for a 'pleasing peach', it can look like a light pink in different lights instead of orange. So I would compromise with, its a pink orange with light changing abilities 🙂 Still has a slight nail polish smell but better than other products I have used. My daughter loves the polish colors and the stickers. The polish quality isn’t like an adult polish and/or polish with more chemicals. The polish chips off by the next day just from normal everyday activities, hand washing, bath. My daughter doesn’t mind but then she just asks to paint her nails every other day. Lol. I have even used the blow dryer but I don’t notice it makes the polish last any longer. I do like that the polish doesn’t smell and is non toxic and because it chips off I never have to use nail polish remover, which I like. Also the stickers never stay on more than an hour. I'm not sure if I got a fluke pack or what. Based on the reviews I was excited for my daughter to try this, but within 2 hours a significant amount of the polish comes off. Even with my daughter being fairly inactive. I thought maybe I didn't do it well. So I shook them extra good, then tried 3 coats, drying with a hair dryer on a low setting in between, but still the same problem. I understand kid's polish shouldn't last as long as regular polish, but it's useless if it comes off the second the kid touches something.Amy28

You must use blow dryer after a few layers, you must use top coat (the whitish colour in the bottle -they have another product that is clear not that one, but you need the top coat). The top coat makes all the streaks go away. Of course blow dry after applying top coat. On kids it lasts a few days depending on how active they are and how much they let u blow dry . On adults without any chips 2 3 days, and then small chips. The only con is that its hard to take off after 3 days. I used reg nail polish remover and alcohol was more effective . Lotsa elbow grease and at the end I used the electic nail mani set to buff /file off the color. Obviously doesn’t last super long. This is day 2, I will try to updated when it chips and upload photo.Lana

I removed acrylics that I had for years during COVID and I have finally got my nails to grow out and I decided I didn't want to go back to acrylics. I ordered one color and the top coat of this brand. I've tried a lot of products and this polish really does work and does not chip for at least 6-7 days and more. I am now getting rid of all of my polish and replacing with this. For the people that say it streaks, the first coat can be a little streaky but the second coat goes on smooth and self levels it's self and the top coat is great. Remember to seal the edge of your nails with the top coat. I do use KUR ridge filler as the base coat though. It's a great smoothing base for your polish and I have also been using Solar Oil on my cuticles and on my entire nail on polish off days. These products have given me the best nails I've had in years. I'll never get acrylics or gels again. Highly recommend.PDRN

Lose the Tude is my favorite color for my fingernails and my 2nd favorite color for my toenails (Pacific's Mermaid Tail is my #1 favorite toenail color). It's a GORGEOUS cross between a coral and watermelon with beautiful golden sparkles. I apply several coats and top it with Deborah Lippmann's Addicted to Speed clear top coat. It's such a fun color and makes me happy (well as much as a nail color can). It has excellent staying power, too. It lasts on my fingers about 2 weeks, and it totally stays on my toes. I can go a month without having to do my toes; it doesn't chip at all from them. I hope they never discontinue this color!!Tajina

I love that this OPI Nature Strong nail polish is vegan, naturally derived, and uses recycled materials for the container! I was a little bit skeptical at first but OPI is a great quality brand so I was happy to try the two colors. The light peachy polish went on a little streaky but I was able to do 3 coats and it looked fine. The pink one was fine. Both applied smoothly and dried pretty quickly, which I was very happy with. I used a base coat and top coat, expecting some chipping to happen pretty quickly as I get with most polishes, but surprisingly I went nearly 6 days with no chips! And the chip I did get was very small. Super durable despite gardening, doing dishes, etc. I'm excited to buy other colors! This is definitely my fave nail polish and is better than other brands I have tried. I really like the message behind this line of nail polishes. I try to be more eco conscious with my purchases so I feel really good about buying this line vs. other nail polishes. I definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for more sustainable nail polish options, but honestly even if you don't care about any of that this is a great nail polish!Awold

I love this color nail polish ! It's the perfect shade 💖 The name of this nail polish is cute It's called "Knowledge is Flower " 🌸 lol how cute is that! I like that the pigment is strong so with one coat if you do it right will cover the whole nail. I only went in with two coats of nail polish but I like that it didn't show any streaks. I recently got the opportunity to try two of OPI's new Nature Strong nail polish. This polish claims it's vegan, made with 75% natural GMO-free ingredients and 20% recycled plastic. I did not realize nail polish wasn't naturally vegan, but read that some of the pigments and thickening agents can come from animal sources! Naturally I was hesitant about a "natural" nail polish, but as per usual OPI continues to impress. I used Knowledge is Flower on most of my nails, a beautiful pink/light mauve polish. This color is classic, would look good with most skin tones and went on flawlessly and smooth! I could've gotten away with one coat, but I added a second to cover up some spots I missed. I did an accent nail of A Clay in the Life, which is an ivory nude color. This one seemed a little thinner, as some nudes do, and took two coats for mostly full coverage, but could've used a third. I'm naturally fair skinned with neutral undertones and thought A Clay in the Life worked well on me, but was a little disappointed by the coverage in 2 coats. The formula on both is smooth, consistent and dried as quickly as normal OPI polish. I would happily purchase more colors of this environmentally conscious nail polish and recommend it to friends! OPI claims this polish is long lasting with up to 7 days of wear. I wore both colors with Duri Rejuvacote as a base coat and Seche Vite on top (which kind of defeats the purpose of natural nail polish!) and I started to get a few small chips on my pointer fingers by day 3. This is pretty typical for me with regular nail polish, so not off putting. I love OPI polish and will definitely try more colors from this Nature Strong line.Whitney1

I just found this brand. I have tons of other polishes but through the years I've developed a sensitivity to wearing them because of the chemicals in them. So seeing this "natural" brand I decided to try it. I love these! I threw out all my old polishes. These are gentle on the skin, last a long time, and I use the avocado polish remover which is also gentle (not cheap though). The colors are saturated and don't streak – and the selection of colors is so nice. I've bought five colors so far and QVC thanks for the free shipping on them. I got the color Shooting Stars, a dark blue with glitter. Nail polish ALWAYS chips on me, usually the same day I apply it. This nail polish lasted 5 days before chipping!!!! Amazing! My nails feel stronger, which is a huge plus because I used after removing my acrylic nails. It is way worth the price and now I need the entire collection. The only con is that there is a limited selection in store, the rest can be found on their website. I used to go to salon to get my nails done so it is the first time in 10 years that i used nail polish to do my nails! I love the saturated colors and how fast it dries. I got three colors: Trust the Process, Kissin in the Rain, and When the Night Falls. I don’t think it can be applied alone perfectly. To have nice finish, a base coat and a top coat are necessary. This nail polish’s finish is not gloss enough. It is very easy to be removed without leaving stain (one big reason I avoid nail polishes for a long time) and i can even peel it off. It also doesn’t smells as strong as OPI. The brush is okay. I think it is a bit thick to apply my nails. I think I’ll get a thin flat brush next time I go to Ulta. It did chip a little bit after 3 days, but I assume it is because of my beginner skill.roseline.w

Put it to the test of household cleaning, gardening and lots of handy work for a week. It lasted a full week. Highly recommend it! This set is so adorable, and great for littles who like their nails done. My daughter is 7, and often the smell of typical nail polish is too much for her. I LOVE that this piggy paint is available, and made with better ingredients, so it doesn't have the string, overwhelming scent that regular polish does. Wow! Finally a kid-friendly nail Polish that actually goes on nicely and LASTS!! The colors are beautifully vibrant and I love that they all have a nice shimmer/sparkle to them. I used the top/base coat on my two kids (4 and 6 year olds) then alternated with the purple, green, and pink colors to their liking for both nails and toes. I really appreciate that that it doesn’t smell like chemicals! I don’t have to worry about my kids inhaling the fumes or putting their hands in their mouths (one of them likes to bite her nails). I loved the saturated color and it lasted for 2 weeks on my toes without chipping. I did experience some chipping on my fingernails after 5 days. I used Sally Hansen base and top coat with both toes and fingers. I usually use a soy based polish remover for removal all my polishes ((usually Sally Hansen, Opi and Essie). However, the polish wouldn’t come off with the soy polish remover. Luckily I had some acetone remover and was able to use that. Even with the acetone remover, it took me an hour to get the polish off my fingers! I didn’t bother trying to remove the polish off my toes. I went to a nail salon and they had to soak off the polish with acetone remover and file off the remnants of polish. They asked me if I was wearing gel polish. I had to show them the bottle. I won’t use this polish again. I get the same staying power with my regular polishes with the headache of removal.LadyCG

This is my first time trying this brand. I love that it's healthier for my nails and I loved the sparkly brown color for Fall so I figured I'd give it a try (not that it makes a difference for the polish but I loved the little square bottle, too!). So, the color is great at it goes on perfectly! I'm usually a bit messy with the application and need to clean up my toes after but this polish goes on really well without a lot of excess dripping (maybe the consistency differs from others?), either way it went on easy and dried fast and it looks great so now I want to try some other colors – this might be my new go to brand!Kimberly

Okay, so I got this because I am new to polish and I didn't know that t&b isn't really a thing, it's one or the other, and this is def consider a topcoat… HOWEVER I HAVE FOUND SOME BASE PROPERTITIES!!!!! See, I love this even just as a topcoat and by itself (this is a must have staple for me) but I found out that if you put this underneath your peely base (I have Holo Taco's) that it makes the peely base last for around 3 to 5 (FIVE!!!!) days, possibly more! I practically have to rip them off on the third day (btw don't do that, just soak and they should pop off, maybe a bit goopy mess, but 9/10 the goop pops off.) I hated my peely base because it wouldn't last for 3 hours and made my nails feel suffocated, but with this topcoat, my nails feel great! There may be some tip and cuticle wear, but your nail won't pop off as a whole (as long as you don't put ORLY's glow-n-dark right on the peely, it seems to not work as well.)cuteashbetch

The colors are beautiful, pigmented, and shiny for a "natural" formula. However, you must be ready to learn how to use them. They get clumpy, goopy, and annoying easily. You must work fast, and you gotta be careful on what base to use as if there's too much of a grip, you might end up with bubbles that get trapped between the base and the polish. Highly recommend for those trying to switch to this kind of formulas, but for those that do not care about it, I would just stick to other regular polishes instead. I returned all the ones I got because I legitimately don't have the time nor patience to be fixing and meddling with my nails. However, if you are super flexible and willing to learn how to make them work for you, I think they're above other formulas out there for sure.GPM

I especially like this because it doesn’t turn my natural nails yellow. Nice wide brush.easy to apply. Dries quickly and stays on my nails at least 3-4 days without chipping. When it does start chipping it is minimal and really doesn’t look that bad until about 7-8 days out. My favorite color is the frosted amethyst-just tried love you lotus which looked terrible on me. I'm increasingly sensitive to fragrance, and was looking for a hardener or clear polish that had less odor and is free of the key toxic chemicals). I'm so happy to have found this hardener. The product is great – it applies easily, dries fast, and lasts a long time (even through my multi-day kitchen "deep cleaning" project). Water is usually the enemy for my nails, but this stood strong. The brush is perfectly shaped for easy application, and even the brush handle is easy to hold with my non-dominant hand. And the odor is lower than other products (including Sally Hansen's Hard as Wraps, my previous favorite). The smell is a little strong at first, but dries down quickly. I bought this product because it is plant based. I really was not expecting to perform long term as it is plant based. I bought the two pack, color and top coat at Walgreens, as there was a promotion. I have actually had this product for about two years and wanted to use a spring color, 180 Soft Plum. Wowza! It dried so fast and holds up better than many of the other high-cost products I have used. I cook and garden a lot and it just started to wear on the tips after about 1 1/2 weeks. Wow! Wow and wow! I used good nail prep, a base coat, two coats of pure, and a top coat. I have been adding a top coat daily to try to get longer wear. I am on day 5 without any chips. My tips on my dominant hand are worn off but otherwise it is in great shape. It barely shows. It makes my nails look clean versus having a noticeable color. This nail polish is good when it's brand new but after having it even for a month or two, the quality is horrible. It's clumpy and impossible to apply smoothly. I don't think it's worth the money if you have to use it all right away. I don't have this same issue with other "17 free" polishes so I don't think it has anything to do with how it's stored. Certain colors in this brand are hard to get off as well, they stain and make a mess. I wouldn't buy this brand again.Yellowbirdmom

I bought this because I’m pregnant and trying to avoid all of the harmful chemicals I can. This polish is free from the 17 harmful chemicals found in all other types of polish, so I wasn’t expecting it to work very well. However, this might be the best nail polish I’ve ever used! It glides on perfectly, I only needed one coat, it dries fairly quickly and I didn’t notice a single chip until about a week later. This is my new favorite and even when no longer pregnant, I will continue to only buy this polish.Libby

This set is so adorable, and great for littles who like their nails done. My daughter is 7, and often the smell of typical nail polish is too much for her. I LOVE that this piggy paint is available, and made with better ingredients, so it doesn't have the string, overwhelming scent that regular polish does. I can let my daughter paint her own nails with this and know that she not going to be inhaling harmful chemicals. It also cleans off of surfaces so much easier as well. Got the santa’s sweetie set. Of note, silver one is just glitter/sparkles (no color) and green color have sparkles in them too. Red is cream finish. Hard to tell from photos. Piggy Paint is a big hit with my daughter. She owns 7 bottles or so now and these pouch sets are great. I wish they offer more color variations and more of the cream finish colors.Target Shopper

2 coats on clean dry nails lasted nearly 2 weeks! (and i wash my hands a lot!). ..and better still, the non toxic remover i have took it off way easier than any other polish ive ever tried (furiously) to remove- which says a lot and even more considering the color was a dark purple! not often- if ever- i write reviews, but this polish deserves 12 stars! thank you to karma for your dedication in creating such an amazing line of polish! i will never risk trying any other brand! ps- i have acute chemical (hyper) sensitivity and experienced no adverse reaction and my nails appear healthier than before i applied the polish nearly 2 wks ago! no lie!! I bought this for my daughter Jessica, she absolutely loves it! It is (for some uncertain reason) very difficult to find vegan and cruelty free white nail polish out of all of the colors offered, (even harder to find the most non-toxic version), so I was pleased to buy this knowing it is the safest out there and is also from a small, local business. The consistency of this is nicely done, not too thin while not too thick, very unlike some of the other nail polish we’ve owned. I also like that it was fast drying, perfect for when you’re needing to get ready within the last minute.sarah

I am always thrilled to find a new, ecologically conscientious and vegan product and this is one is new to me because I only found it recently after trying several other vegan and hypoallergenic nail polishes. As ecologically conscientious is quite often synonymous with hypoallergenic because the basis of both philosophies is to exclude agitating toxic chemicals I am assured the Karma nail polish will not cause my highly sensitive skin any unnecessary agitation while providing me with a mind soothing manicure to realign my mood and psyche without any ill effects on the environment. As hypoallergenic nail treatment goes Karma is putting out pretty colors which did live up to my expectations, causing no allergic reaction whatsoever which assures me that they are high quality and earth friendly because I have had many serious and minor allergic reactions to the overwhelming majority of beauty products but Karma caused no allergic reaction whatsoever to date. I hope Karma will continue to put out additional varieties of hypoallergenic, non-agitating vegan nail polish and although I do not like any face make up more of these hypoallergenic products for the face such as foundation, blush, eyeliner and mascara would allow my neighbor's child, who likes to do other peoples faces, the opportunity to experiment on me for as long as I have the patience to sit through her detailed attention. The other vegan nail polish I have tried is equal in value to this and I would recommend all the vegan nail polish brands with equal confidence, including Karma, Pacifica and Mineral Fusion. They all last just as long as regular nail polish, have higher quality top coats because they are nonirritating, and a beautiful array of both playful and traditional colors. If I was truly fun filled and free spirited I'd paint every nail with a different color or design; maybe for the next holiday.Jordanna

Seen these at Ulta and was excited to see the shades of green were actually existing. So I bought Mermaid and Sea monster to do my nails for Saint Patty's. The mermaid was so light I had to apply 4 coats and it was still light so I didnt use it. I used the sea monster however with another brand and the sea monster messed up my nails completely. The toes I used it on, to this day almost 2 years later, are still stained and are effected by acetone. Just those toes, nothing helps to fixing it. And I know it's not the acetone fault cuz they dont effect the other toes or my fingernails. So ya thanksJaime M

I bought Rose Gold several months ago at a beauty store. I loved the pink/mauve hue with the subtle gold flecks. I received several compliments on the color. I ordered a new bottle from Amazon recently, it is a red rose with gold. I went back to the same store this weekend and this time it is an pinkish/orangish/red rose. It looked correct but I did not have the original bottle with me. All the bottles had the same color label and bar code. I am very disappointed I couldn’t get the original color. The color on this website is close to the original, however I am hesitant to order another bottle and be disappointed again. The quality of the polish is wonderful, just disappointed in color consistency.Vickie53

So I actually wrote a review giving this product 5 stars a bit over a week ago (under the same name Mepo). I couldn't find a way to edit my review, so I'm just going to continue with commenting on more colors I tried, and my thoughts. As you can see, this review is 4 starsinstead of 5, which is entirely explained by how awful the "Pretty and Pink" was for me. In my previous review, I noted my thoughts on Nebula, Tourmaline, Blue Topaz, Sedona, and Milky Way. Today, I will comment on: Opal, Rose Gold, Eternal Flame, Pretty and Pink, and Turquoise Tiara. First, for all but Pretty and Pink, I loved the formulas. Onto specifics… Opal – This is a really pretty, sheer, and buildable color. I've never seen an opal IRL, but this color adds a nice sheen and glow (kinda pinkish?) to my nails when I'm just in normal lighting. In the sun, I think it just looks so ethereal and beautiful. I think it adds a lot of elegance to nails; you probably would need AT LEAST 2 coats, but probably 3 to actually get more opacity. Rose Gold – Another really pretty color! I do think this isn't really much of a 'rose gold' color though. It's definitely more red (and honestly almost orange-ish?) in color. The formula was opaque and easy to paint with, but I just don't think it's what I would think of as a rose gold. Imo it's a pretty and bright color, but it's missing the kind of soft gold element. Eternal Flame – This was almost like a highly orange version of rose gold (which is weird, except when considering rose gold wasn't your traditional rose gold imo). Again, easy formula to work with (I needed 2 coats, but I have very small nails), and I think I like it on my toes just because of how much they make my toes 'pop'. Pretty and Pink – GOD I wanted to love this one so badly. It's a really pretty, pastel pink that seems so universally appealing imo, but the formula was AWFUL. I am a beginner when it comes to painting my nails, but this was just so thick yet somehow still sheer. It wasn't self-levelling at all, and seemed like every one of the brush strokes was visible. I guess 'goopy' is the best way to describe the formula? I did buy nail polish thinner, but even adding that didn't help. It became a bit easier to work with, but it was still non-leveling and hard to get smooth coverage. I would probably rate this 2 stars (hence the overall 5 stars, since the rest I would give 5 or 4, since there were some color inaccuracies); maybe a pro would be able to get the best out of this, but I have used some pretty old/cheap drugstore brands recently, and this is the only polish that eludes me. I LOVE THE COLOR THOUGH 🙁 Turquoise Tiara – This one isn't very turquoise to me at all, but rather seems a baby blue (not the lightest blue I own, but just a very springy color to me). It's creamy and fairly nice to apply (the formulas are a bit thicker than like opal/eternal flame, but this one leveled out nicely for me), and the only issue I had was a bit of pooling (imo this was just user error more than anything – I have this problem with all creamier shades cuz I have shaky hands and tiny nails). LOVE this color though. I expected something almost more 'oceany'/turquoise (cuz of the name lol), but it's just a nice soft blue color on me. Hope this helps!Mepo

I liked the color and how easy it was to take off. It really felt safe to use on my nails and it made me realize how chemically other polishes feel. The one thing I would say is that it didn’t paint on very smoothly/evenly very easily. I had to keep applying layers or take the polish off to start over to create thinner layers, then it took long to dry because of that.Zoë H.

The color is great – a clean opaque neutral that is not at all dull or muddy looking. Really a fantastic color, at least on my relatively fair skin. The formula, though, is so odd I wonder if I just got an off bottle. It's thick and gloppy – almost like painting nails with Elmer's glue – nearly impossible to apply. I tried it with 2 different clear bases and on bare nails, just to make sure it was the polish. It's the polish. But for what it's worth, I bought the Kure base and topcoat at the same time, and am enjoying both.Jennifer S.
