20 Best Gel Nail Polish Top Coat (2024 Update)

Ho Ho holy moly! This is an AMAZING polish! Most glitter polishes (which is the version I’m reviewing) smear when you put them on or don’t show up at all. This Deep Sea Diamonds polish shows up and then some! It not only has small glitter but bigger pieces as well which makes it super sparkly! I’m wearing it over a darker color but you can definitely wear this on its own. Two coats is all you need but you can get away with one. The formulation is on the thicker side which helps keep the glitter in tact. Add a quick dry top coat and you’re done! Highly recommend! If you follow me, I’d like to first say thank you so much! Dries quickly, so apply quickly and carefully. This is a great middle ground between regular polish and real gel, meaning it is great for home use. You can get thick coverege that hides your ridges without needing to buff your nails if you do 2 color and 1 top coat. I'm in the process of replacing all my existing polishes with Miracle Gel versions.LH

I am not one to leave a review. I am a long time nail salon junkie and finally decided to "do my own" . I have done the dip and gel polish at home for a few years now and hate the time consumption of the dip and gel keep up. So I have decided to try another route again. I am now relishing in my natural nail beauty and have found this product to be a life saver! I start with an OPI Nail Envy nail strengthener, and then any polish of my choice, I currently am using OPI brand. I then seal with Big Dry top coat from Sally Hansen. This dries really fast. I then use the SALLY HANSEN MIRACLE GEL TOP COAT, it dries in about 5 minutes, and then I add one more coat of the Big Dry top coat.. and PERFECT AND LONG LASTING RESULTS! All I can say is I think it dries faster if you use the big dry top coat prior to just putting it directly onto the polish. Other than that this is fabulous and I will keep using this product with every polish change etc… LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!Amanda Cain

I got this product complimentary from Influenster and sally hansen in exchange for my honest review. I got the color sugar fix and the topcoat color of Crystal. The colors were definitely pretty so that was a nice plus. As you can see in the pics, the second pic shows each color with one coat. It is very sheer so definitely you need two coats for it to completely cover your nails. The third pic shows each nail with two coats which covered nicely. The pointer nail has the sugarvfix with the Crystal topcoat on top and it is very pretty with a nice sparkle. It dries pretty quickly too which is another plus. What I did not like about these is that the polish scrapes off your nail pretty easily so there was not a long period of staying power. Also, the wand of the brush is like a flat piece of glass with the bristles at the end. I personally did not like this and found it difficult to get the wand in and out of the bottle. I much prefer round wands which go in and out of the bottle much easier. The polish and the topcoat were also not super shiny like other polishes. I found them both to be a little matte, than super shiny. I prefer more shiny and glossy. Just my preference though. The polish did come off easy with nail polish remover which was nice. This base is a light blue/periwinkle type color. It is thicker consistency so it doesn't chip as much as acrylic or regular paint. the color is bold and beautiful! This polish lasted so long on my nails doing my daily work and tasks and didn't chip! It is much thicker lacquer due to it being gel and chip resistant. It went beautifully with the top coat Crystal to make it holo! Base coat was two top coat three with five min dry time in between 10/10lindsey.h

I recently ordered 5 colors through Kiara Sky and absolutely love all of them! I was told about this brand through my cousin who is a loyal customer of theirs. There are sooo many to choose from and it is very hard to not pick them all. I love glitter and they have a ton of glitter options. They also offer deals and have texting and email offers if you sign up which is nice to take advantage of. I enjoy using gel nail polish but have struggled in the past with cheaper brands lasting on my nails. My hands get pretty beat up as I am a vet technician and workout daily. My nails would often chip in a week despite follow gel polish ways of using. I have had on this color for a little over a week now and so far no chipping and it seems to be holding up very well! I'm excited to try the other colors I purchased. The only complaint I have is it took 3 weeks for delivery and I kept receiving misleading emails about where my package was and if it had even shipped or not. Otherwise, the colors came in a cute box with preventable measures for them not to break. I will most likely be ordering again if these colors continue to hold up well on my nails. I was excited to try Kiara Sky! My cousin told me about this brand and I decided to try it since other brands I have used in the past would chip. I have tried this color and it last two weeks. Which is amazing because usually my nails using other gel products wouldn't last a week without chipping. I love this color as purple is my favorite color. There are a ton of colors to choose from and I wanted them all! They also send out texts and emails with offers such as 15% off. I also enjoy the fact they are promoted cruelty free which is huge for me. For the most part, I really like this product! Realistically, a little goes a long way, but I'd probably repurchase this after its run out. My manicure still risks peeling off in the shower if I'm not careful, which is why I shaved off a star, but it totally works as a decent top coat. The Gel Genius Base Coat is a genius but more importantly is that it works. I own the other two base coats and honestly they are a genius as well. I switched between them depending upon what I think my nails need. You can’t go wrong with any of them. LONDONTOWN makes it easy. Their description of each product does what it says. So far, so good! It is rather fast-drying, especially for as thick and gel-like as it is. It's definitely not as thick as a layer of gel in the salon, but I'd say a little thicker and richer than regular nail polish and top coat. I love that it's versatile enough to wear over any polish. Easy to work with. Goes on smoothly and is nicely thick on the nail. Self-leveling which minimizes unwanted visible brush strokes. Reapply every other day or every three days max. Gives me a cushiony gel manicure look with lots of shine but removes easily with nail polish remover. Wipes off; no soaking or scrubbing necessary. It also dries down fairly quickly.Happy lady

I actually like the Seche Vive a bit better than the Seche Vite. It is thicker, which I like, but truthfully you probably only get to use half the bottle because it becomes very viscous and hard when you get down to the bottom. I usually pick Seche up on sale or at an off-price retailer, so I don't mind that I am unable to use all the product. It gives a plump, gel effect and lasts longer than any other topcoat I've tried. Plus, it has an unmistakable, glossy sheen that other topcoats can't compete with. This gel-setter top coat really shines! It takes my nails to a new level and makes the color pop. I naturally have ridges in my nails and this top coat makes my nail beds perfectly smooth. The formula looks thick but it’s really not. I paint two coats of my nail color, then one coat of this gel-setter top coat. It dries super fast and is strong. This is better than gel nails in my opinion, this won’t damage your natural nail bed.RebeccaS

I am so disappointed I spent any money on this. I figured I would give it a try because I like the polish as a whole and I wanted to give my nails a break after having the professional done. After less than 24 they are chipped and peeling like crazy. I figured with the “gel like finish” it would be sturdy then everyday activities. I received this gel setter in hopes of it doing a better job at keeping my color from chipping. Within 3 days it has started to chip other than the short life, it is a amazing setter! For it to be gel it does set very quickly. Within a minute it was completely dry and non tacky. It doesn’t leave a lingering smell like the off brand gels so either. It’s shine is fantastic! I decided to treat myself to this after usually only buying standard nail polishes. Reading the reviews I went ahead and was really excited to try it out. The initial application was great, went on really well and dried quite quickly. However, less than 24 hours later, 8 out of my 10 nails are chipped, and the varnish has actually peeled off two of my nails altogether! I only did my toenails, not my fingernails, so it’s not as if my nails have been bashed about with general day to day. I have been all about nails and nail polish since I was a little girl. What little birthday and pocket money I got as a kid went to nail polish. For the last 12 years, my work has involved working with a lot of paper and a lot of typing. I'm hard on manicures and keyboards. I average 1 key board every 3 years or so. I've tried every kind of gel and top coat. Most rub off on paper, leaving streaks or rub off the tips. I bought Miracle Gel on a whim. And I was AMAZED. It is so quick to apply, and it holds up. I used Time for a Selfie over the top of Pixie Pink! Absolutely love the way it came out. I put on 2 coats for extra sparkle. This is totally clear with the sparkle/glitter. Love the consistency and that the sparkles do not all bunch up when applying.Kathy M.

The color of this gel polish looks stunning in the preview images, but I don't think it delivers quite as vibrantly and as opaquely in practice. This could be a user error – I'm no professional! I expected the base gel to be more opaque or more black based on the preview photos, but it's more of a mid-tone burgundy and not nearly as dark. It feels like even with 2 layers, it's not as dark as it should be. Is it still stunning? Absolutely! It's a gorgeous, glittering red, it's just not what I expected.Darren H.

This color is a wonderful shade of olive green that doesn't cross into being too brown. The consistency and brush made use easy and smooth as I am not a professional and paint my own nails. I was happy with the coverage after 2 coats. The color printed on the bottle label is slightly off, but the actual paint color fits the color description. The only reason this gel polish doesn't get a 5 star is because it is an absolute pain to get off. I can soak it and soak it for what seems like hours and I still have to file it off or scrape with an orange stick. The colours are beautiful, it is easy to apply for a beginner and it doesnt pool at the edges of your nail. Another great bonus is that the top coat does not require alcohol wiping, so for those with tight c curved nails, like me, you get much better coverage and top coat seal!kayla.m

I recently started doing my own gel nails at home and I love this top coat. It is no wipe so you do not have a sticky residue left over. I will always recommend to friends! At home gel nails are the way to go. I have weaker nails and this helps strengthen them without the salon price.mckenna.d

Who knows when their overhead mechanism was made. I had the manual and that was no help. So the hardest part was finding the correct setup code [which I then wrote down]. But it does just exactly what it is supposed to do. But do keep your manual. Sometimes a power outage will require a reset. I was hesitant to purchase this because my prior experience with this brand (Ombre kit) was disappointing. But I'm delighted with the Chrome art nail kit in Chameleon. Depending on the light, nail color can look lizard green, bronze, or garnet; glitter sparkle is discreet. Every time I extend my hand to store clerks, waiters, bank tellers, etc. they stop me in mid-sentence to compliment me. I'd give 5 stars but the second kit I purchased, in Bronze, is less distinctive. (The monochromatic color scheme is pretty subtle–maybe I have to play with it more for maximum effect?). Go for the Chameleon, but make sure to cover your work surface thoroughly because the glitter flakes are whisper thin and end up *everywhere.* Otherwise, application is straightforward and simple. Durability is average, though I found that with Chameleon touch-ups are easy — just apply a bit more of the black polish, then dab on more glitter with the stamper and voila, chips are gone.Campari

Not horrible, but definitely not good and surely not great. The smell is the first thing I noticed. God awful. Smells like it would be pure toxicity -I was even hesitant to put it on my nails. But I did. A few days in (like 3) and the polish is chipping on certain nails. The color pink fairy? Is very translucent and so two coats feels not enough. However, the more you layer, the bumpier it gets and gets a lump by the base. It does not go on smoothe. The lamp got super hot but it did dry the polish. Overall, pretty disappointed because I really wanted to like it. It's cute and pretty colors. But would I recommend? No. Thinking of returning.Laura D

I find the shades very inconsistent in quality. Overall, I do not expect these polishes to be the same quality as salon gel mani. However, it's a nice backup if, like me, you're hard on your hands and tend to muck up regular polish very quickly. It was a great replacement for going to the salon during the pandemic. I find that I generally need to do at least 1 additional round of lamp curing than number of coats. Rose Gold- this is not a true metallic rose gold but just pink with glitter. If you're fine with the color (which is a nice, neutral glitter-just not what I expected/hoped for with the name) it's a decent gel polish. I have gotten up to 2 weeks with no chipping, just tip wear. Spiced Chai- shimmery beige with faint purple undertone. My fave color so far. I've gotten 10 days before it chips. Pomegranate- Horrible quality for a decent (though not unique) looking color. This shade is extremely runny and pools around the cuticles no matter how thin of a coat I put on, so it takes a lot of clean up. It takes no less than 3 coats to get it opaque, much less not horribly streaky. Curing seems to make a coat "shrink" even more (see photo of one or two coats after curing). I have to cure it multiple additional times before it dries. Not sure about durability since I never wear this for more than 2 days before I take it off.lindsy.l

I wanted to try Le Mini Macaron for a while, because it looked so easy and was in such cute packaging, plus not having to go to a salon really appeals to me. I saw the Rose Gold and Cherry kits on sale once, and my daughter got them for me for Christmas. I followed the directions and BAM! Beautiful long-lasting manicure at last! Since then I've experimented with other one-step brands and had good success, but this one is the best so far. The process is super-easy, smooth application and a 30-second cure, will not chip (on me at least), does not dull out. Additionally, it is easy to remove. A couple of the colors are sheer, but all-in-all, I may just give up regular polish for Le Mini Macaron. My next step is the maxi lamp kit.Lanie

2 coats on clean dry nails lasted nearly 2 weeks! I bought this for my daughter Jessica, she absolutely loves it! It is (for some uncertain reason) very difficult to find vegan and cruelty free white nail polish out of all of the colors offered, (even harder to find the most non-toxic version), so I was pleased to buy this knowing it is the safest out there and is also from a small, local business. The consistency of this is nicely done, not too thin while not too thick, very unlike some of the other nail polish we’ve owned. I am always thrilled to find a new, ecologically conscientious and vegan product and this is one is new to me because I only found it recently after trying several other vegan and hypoallergenic nail polishes. As ecologically conscientious is quite often synonymous with hypoallergenic because the basis of both philosophies is to exclude agitating toxic chemicals I am assured the Karma nail polish will not cause my highly sensitive skin any unnecessary agitation while providing me with a mind soothing manicure to realign my mood and psyche without any ill effects on the environment. As hypoallergenic nail treatment goes Karma is putting out pretty colors which did live up to my expectations, causing no allergic reaction whatsoever which assures me that they are high quality and earth friendly because I have had many serious and minor allergic reactions to the overwhelming majority of beauty products but Karma caused no allergic reaction whatsoever to date. I hope Karma will continue to put out additional varieties of hypoallergenic, non-agitating vegan nail polish and although I do not like any face make up more of these hypoallergenic products for the face such as foundation, blush, eyeliner and mascara would allow my neighbor's child, who likes to do other peoples faces, the opportunity to experiment on me for as long as I have the patience to sit through her detailed attention. The other vegan nail polish I have tried is equal in value to this and I would recommend all the vegan nail polish brands with equal confidence, including Karma, Pacifica and Mineral Fusion. They all last just as long as regular nail polish, have higher quality top coats because they are nonirritating, and a beautiful array of both playful and traditional colors. If I was truly fun filled and free spirited I'd paint every nail with a different color or design; maybe for the next holiday.Jordanna

I've been using seche viet and out the door top coats exclusively for over 10 years. I never tried anything else because those did the job of being really shiny and drying fast. The problem I had was that they would dry up really quickly and were almost too thick and sometimes would shrink the polish under neath or streak. I noticed with this top coat that it's shiny but it isn't overly thick. It glides right over polish and smoothed out an imperfection without being super thick. I didn't notice any shrinking either. Also, the brush applicator is great it's a bit wider and fluffier than the average top coat brush. I really like this top coat and Im glad I took a chance, I haven't been a super fan of essie polishes in the past but I do enjoy this.Nessa

This is the only top coat I can trust to not chip on my nails. I have purchased about 3 times. I do my own mani/pedis- might get them done professionally 1-2 times per year. This gel system lasts just as long as when my nail lady uses her polishes. If I need the color to last for vacations, I use this gel system. I’m really hard on my hands, and this doesn’t chip. My pedicure will last till I remove the color (3-4 weeks). I do take care to prep the nail bed, making sure there is not oily residue. The shine from the top coat is awesome, evens out the polish nicely and really resists chipping. I would say it takes 8-10 mins to dry over the Essie gel polishes.Yessie

This top coat is pretty good! It was very easy apply, and went on very smooth. I had no issues applying it. It did take 5-10 minutes to fully dry. Within the first couple of days I was noticing that the polish under the top coat started the break apart but the top coat was still doing well. By day 3 I was starting to see some small chips on some of my nails, but one nail I had tried a different kind of gel polish from Essie (the blue/grey nail) and that one didn't have any chips yet. It is day 4 now of wearing the polishes, the blue/grey polish on my left hand (my non dominant hand) has a small chip at the side, but my right is still doing well. It seems like the polish underneath determines how well the top coat does and lasts. Some last, some don't. It's a pretty good top coat though!louise.c

Metallic polishes have always been my go to colour since aged 12 when my older sister told me these were easier to apply without looking blotchy. Whether or not this is true I still do not know 15 odd years later, but my habit has been set! Game of Chromes is a beautiful colour. Normally I avoid a polish this gold out of fear of it looking tacky, but there are a number of subtones to the colour that tone it down and cause it to look a mixture of silver, bronze and gold depending on how the light shines. Very much a statement polish still, but one that looks like it has been chosen by an adult! The polish is opaque enough that one coat will give you sufficient coverage, but I opted for two to get that added sparkle. Note you need quite a long drying time in this case. I tend to only use polish on my toes, and therefore I can't provide helpful comments on how resistant the polish is to daily chores such as washing up and typing. However it has lasted amazingly well on my toes compared to previous polishes I have used. Two weeks later and, except for my nails having grown a little, looks like I applied it yesterday. To be picky, the brush was slightly too large for my nails. My little toe nails needed more of a dot than a stroke! Certainly I would have struggled to do an accurate job on my fingers. However, this is common for me and I would rather the brush spread too far than did not cover my whole nail as it's not that hard to pick off the bits that get on the skin if needed. The polish did go on smoothly and very streak free. As mentioned before, I did two layers and it took a while for the first one to dry enough to attempt the second coat so had to flap round the house wiggling my feet like a mad lady for a while. The top coat was very good and seemed to really meld with the colour polish. Note that you get best results using this in sunlight as that sets the polish in the same way a UV lamp does for normal gel nails. Not the easiest when you're doing this on your toenails and don't have a garden, but I managed! Overall I'm very happy with this polish and think it's great to not need to go to the salon for a long lasting finish.yelitza.s

If you enjoy using any of the beautiful gel polish from Sally Hansen then you will definitely love using their gel polish base coat. As this base coat help bind or adhere the color better to our nails. For me I think it helps not protect our nails but also help the nail color last longer as well. The only reason this gel polish doesn't get a 5 star is because it is an absolute pain to get off. I can soak it and soak it for what seems like hours and I still have to file it off or scrape with an orange stick. The colours are beautiful, it is easy to apply for a beginner and it doesnt pool at the edges of your nail. Another great bonus is that the top coat does not require alcohol wiping, so for those with tight c curved nails, like me, you get much better coverage and top coat seal!kayla.m

I recently started doing my own gel nails at home and I love this top coat. It is no wipe so you do not have a sticky residue left over. I will always recommend to friends! At home gel nails are the way to go. I have weaker nails and this helps strengthen them without the salon price.mckenna.d

Who knows when their overhead mechanism was made. I had the manual and that was no help. So the hardest part was finding the correct setup code [which I then wrote down]. But it does just exactly what it is supposed to do. But do keep your manual. Sometimes a power outage will require a reset. This top coat and foundation set, along with the matching probond, has made my nails last for close to a month. It is very easy to apply as you can take your time with it and it will not dry until you cure it. I have found that sticking to one brand for foundation, color and topcoat reaps the best results as their chemical compositions are designed to work together. Mixing brands tend to lead to less longevity. I would 100% buy this product again as it has more than met my expectationsmember-6fb29

One… The top coat doesnt smooth out right away when youre curing it. It felt so sticky and wasnt staying glossy. Two… its not real because the cheap products I get an allergic reaction in my fingers. They start to itch and get sensitive. But the next day it was smooth and if you dont put enough the gloss doesnt show as much. I wasnt happy that it wasnt the real product. And I wanted a good brand because I was tired of the allergic reaction I get from the fake and cheap products when I want to do my nails at home. So If your reading this… dont buy it.Rebecca

Cant wait to start using base and top coat for my own diy gel manicures. The salon I was going to uses this brand and my manis lasts 3weeks with no chipping, lifting or dulling. Only reason I need to re-do at 3 weeks is that my nails grow sooo fast, otherwise could probably stretch it even furtherpatriciafino2009
