These are a very good idea. Cats are notoriously touchy about their toes and feet. I'm always concerned I'll cut too far down, IF I can even get hold of a cat nail. I had been using human nail clippers which were only ok. With these clippers, you can't go too far onto the nail and reach the "quick" which would be ever so painful. Only one negative, I purchased the first pair (which says includes cats' toenails), but with one senior cat, some of her nails have thickened so I had to order the next size up – a small. So sizing can be individual and a bit of a guess. The small was hard to get, often out of stock, so it must be a favorite!Patricia

I was SO excited when I saw these clippers, thinking that "arm wrestling" my three terriers (each weighing approximately only 19 lbs.) every weekend might finally be over. I've had dogs all my life and I compete with them in dog agility, so trimmed nails are a must. I've used both kinds of clippers (guillotine and scissors types) and Dremels, I've never nicked a nail, but it is still a physical battle. I saw these Zen Clippers and thought they would be the answer for me. Sadly, it's not the case, and so I am returning them. I tried the XL size, but even on my small Sealyham Terriers, the clipper just slides off the nail with doing little, if any, trimming. We recently adopted our dog. Her nails had been neglected. Don't know if that's the reason why they're so tough to clip or not but these, unfortunately, just weren't strong enough for her nails. I could not squeeze them to clip most of the nails. Love the concept. Sizing was perfect. Got the XXL as she is 54 pounds. The nail fit right in the hole and stopped just shy of the quick, but just didn't always clip.Nancy

this product is made very poorly. the light will not stay lit. I have to tighten the bottom of the batteries everytime I want to use it with the light. it also does not cut my dogs nails all the way through. the clippers tore the nails the last 1/4 way through. it was very painful for my dogs and very difficult for me to use.Samantha

These were not very good quality. The blade was not sharp enough to go through my Bassets nails. The light was broken when we received them so that function wasn't useful. The blade replacement release wouldn't move so we couldn't replace the blade that came with it. And they certainly are not very heavy duty.Theresa

I bought on Amazon. I love the LED light and magnifier because I can see the blood line even in black nails. The bad reviews, either they received a defective one or they are not using it correctly. I've used these on 5 different small dog breeds and 1 large dog, and it worked equally great on all. You can buy replacement blades cheap on Amazon, but I broke my clippers trying to remove an old blade to replace it, so now I have to buy another clipper, but still cannot complain because I used my first clipper for 5 years.sharon.m

I used to buy the Millers Forge but I have been having issues getting stock of it. This is as good as the Millers Forge. In fact I think the blades stay sharper for longer. I am a dog groomer and go through nail clippers very quickly. Dog nail clippers must be sharp so that they don't crush the nail and hurt the dogs. Works as expected and clips much smoother than my last pair. Very sharp! I got the small size to use on my chihuahua and I will say that they are a bit too large to really be perfect but they still get the job done. He hatenail clipping time regardless of what I use so I just try to finish as quickly as possible. His nails are dark as well. I purchased these stainless steel pet nail trimmers in the small-medium size. It has locking blades and comfortable, rubber-coated handles. One of the features that I particularly like on this set of nail trimmers is that it has a safety to help prevent injury to your pet's claws. You will still need to be mindful of avoiding the quick, of course, but the safety at least helps prevent a slip-up if your pet makes a sudden movement. The blades are extremely sharp and the reverse is spring-loaded so that once you release the locking mechanism (which is very sturdy), the blades easily come open and ready for use. The small-medium sized trimmer I purchased worked nicely for my cat, and I can see it working well for both small and medium sized dogs as well. After 2 nail trims it was so dull that I had to use both hands to cut a single nail. I could not hold the dogs nails steady while trying to clip with 2 hands. I now need to buy a new clipper because I do not believe these can be sharpened. I couldn't find a phone number for Epica to call and complain.happiboutique

I have been looking for clippers that my just one year old Golden Retriever will not jump away from. Being able to adjust how much nail is clipped at any one time is very important, and these work perfectly. I worked with him for several days playing with him while the clippers near his toes, then touching his toes, then lightly grabbing the nails with the clippers without clipping, and then finally clipping just a little at a time. He was VERY skittish at first, but as time has gone by he's getting more and more used to them, and I can clip a little more each day. Cuts Nice and clean and has a good feel to it the only reason I can't give it five stars is the overcut guard is pretty deep and generally you'll cut into the quick if you use it without some kind of buffer. If they would have a model that had an adjustable depth cut guard it would be worth twice the money as this one. But this one is good quality.marhughe-60

Cutting my dogs nails is not what I call a good time. Try to keep them from moving and hope you don't cut too deep into the nail bed. Freaks me out. Now these clippers will not help with a wiggly pet but they do help get the job done quickly and stop you from cutting too much. I can only get about 2 nails at a sitting before she realizes what I am doing but for those 2 nails….it's a quick smooth job.Boo

I've tried a trimmer of similar design in the past but the quality in this one is much better and I prefer using to the human nail trimmer I was using. It makes a cleaner cut and its design acts as a safety guard against cutting to the quick. The only thing that would make it better is to shorten the length of the pinky rest. I have a black Pomeranian with black nails. Always had problems Cutting her nails without hitting the quick. Love these clippers. Be sure to read the directions and make sure the sensor is facing the correct direction on dogs nail. It DOES matter greatly. These are a lot more heavy duty than I need for my 2 small dogs but they do what they are supposed to. These nail clippers are a great idea but the product does need improvement. The clippers themselves are sharp & clip big dog nails pretty good but as for the battery & light to tell you that it is safe to clip definitely needs improvement because the battery cover keeps falling off & the little button batteries fall out , they do not snap in therefore they are loose & jiggle around which makes the lights not work properly either and they do not turn on all the time when pushing the "on" button. Fighting with the battery cover, the batteries & trying to get them to turn on is not worth money that they want for these nail clippers, just not worth it. I had a pair & my friend got a pair & both were the same way with the same problems. Do not recommend them until they come out with an improved version that resolves these issues with them.hjflyer

I needed a dog nail clipper like this one as my dog has only two white nails and it is hard to know when to avoid the quick especially since I do not normally cut his nails. We have a patio which has a flooring that is a natural emery board but this year it has been impossible to use it so my dog's nails got insanely long. The idea behind this clipper is amazing but there is room for improvement. Here is how mine works. I turn the metal thingy to unlock it and push the button which blinks on orange but then it turns yellow then red. The first time it does not function (stays red) which is the annoying part. I have to turn it off and then it gives me green. As I place it on my dog's nail it changes color according to where it is okay to snip. My dog absolutely HATES nail cutting. He is okay with me touching his nails and massaging them but once he sees the clipper if he is awake he begins to nip and bite. So my strategy has been to catch him truly deep asleep and do the nails patiently one nail at a time (one a day if need it be). Here is another thing I would recommend the maker of this clipper is to sharpen the blades really well. They are not bad but if you are not fast enough if the nail is somewhat hard you may crush the nail. In my case it is not bad as my dog's nails long but I will not go anywhere close to the quick like some groomers do. I just want to clean them up to avoid him getting hurt cause of too curly nails. It is a slow process but I am taking my time not to hurt the guy. I wish this clipper is improved upon (hence the 4 stars) I am happy with it and although Willie wakes up startled when I snip his nail I am confident I go it right. Also a BIG HUGE thumbs up to the customer service from 1800 petmeds as they were insanely helpful when my clipper got stuck in Canada customs to the point where I was wondering if someone just decided to take it. This is like any other dremel out there. Its just a 1-2 setting tool. Its as loud as regular ones and still bothers my dog when I need to use it. It does however grid the nails down just fine and as far as I can tell dogs like it more than clippers. It uses regular sand paper bits so its nothing special. If you own a dremel just use that one, it will work better and faster with no need to spend 30 on another one, on a low setting. I would have given it a 4 star but it says its quiet which is not true. Any dremel on a 1-2 setting will sound the exact same. I recommend using a nicer one with a 3-4 setting and a grit sand paper and a fine sand paper. You will be much happier with thatllehctim787

I don’t have the 2 pack, but I this exact one in a single. This is the best dremel I have used for dogs. Not only is this the one we use at work at the veterinary clinic, I bought one for home. I do dog nail trims as a side job. My clients love the results. On high it’s quick and easy on the dogs nails. On low it’s quiet with low vibration and easy on scared dogs. I got all of his nails over a two day period and it's almost addicting. There's really no cons about this tool. If you go to fast you can smell some burning of the nails but that's only when you push too hard.Brian

The rough brown attachment grinds down faster but is a little noisier. The stone like attachment smooths and is more quiet. I like this item. The only reason I bought the second one is I needed attachments and it was just easier in this time of limited stock. Don’t know what I would do without it because otherwise I would have to make trips to the groomer at my vets office.Snepp

Until the screw that kept the sanding band on sprung off and cracked the safe guard. I tightened the screw and it popped off again in less than a minute. I think my dogs'nails are too long to start with this. They hate getting their nails cut (and I hate doing it) so they've gotten beyond long. The grinder is quiet and the dogs don't seem to mind it, but it is too keep short nails short, not to trim down long nails.Tara

Used this product for the first time today and was very pleased with the results. I have had several rotary tool type nail trimmers over the years to compare. The tool was fairly quiet and the dogs did not fight like they usually do. I have always loved and trusted Dremel and this continues with the Pawcontrol trimmer. Ive bought several different dremel type nail trimmers for my dogs none have worked this good ever. I have large dogs and trimming nails is not an easy task but this files those nails fast and easy. Love this product!!blondfish

A lot of these are not sharp enough nor aligned properly, which results in bad cuts. Not at all a good experience for apprehensive pups! These replaced a pair of reskos and so far, so good. The non slip handle is a bonus. Very good value.endlessodds
