I used to buy the Millers Forge but I have been having issues getting stock of it. This is as good as the Millers Forge. In fact I think the blades stay sharper for longer. One of the features that I particularly like on this set of nail trimmers is that it has a safety to help prevent injury to your pet's claws. You will still need to be mindful of avoiding the quick, of course, but the safety at least helps prevent a slip-up if your pet makes a sudden movement. The blades are extremely sharp and the reverse is spring-loaded so that once you release the locking mechanism (which is very sturdy), the blades easily come open and ready for use. The small-medium sized trimmer I purchased worked nicely for my cat, and I can see it working well for both small and medium sized dogs as well. These are a very good idea. Cats are notoriously touchy about their toes and feet. I'm always concerned I'll cut too far down, IF I can even get hold of a cat nail. I had been using human nail clippers which were only ok. With these clippers, you can't go too far onto the nail and reach the "quick" which would be ever so painful. Only one negative, I purchased the first pair (which says includes cats' toenails), but with one senior cat, some of her nails have thickened so I had to order the next size up – a small. I was SO excited when I saw these clippers, thinking that "arm wrestling" my three terriers (each weighing approximately only 19 lbs.) every weekend might finally be over. I have been looking for clippers that my just one year old Golden Retriever will not jump away from. Being able to adjust how much nail is clipped at any one time is very important, and these work perfectly. I worked with him for several days playing with him while the clippers near his toes, then touching his toes, then lightly grabbing the nails with the clippers without clipping, and then finally clipping just a little at a time. this product is made very poorly. the light will not stay lit. I have a black Pomeranian with black nails. Always had problems Cutting her nails without hitting the quick. Love these clippers. Be sure to read the directions and make sure the sensor is facing the correct direction on dogs nail. It DOES matter greatly. These are a lot more heavy duty than I need for my 2 small dogs but they do what they are supposed to. They do come with the round button batteries for the sensor and they are very easy to install.beadywhitedesigns
These nail clippers are a great idea but the product does need improvement. The clippers themselves are sharp & clip big dog nails pretty good but as for the battery & light to tell you that it is safe to clip definitely needs improvement because the battery cover keeps falling off & the little button batteries fall out , they do not snap in therefore they are loose & jiggle around which makes the lights not work properly either and they do not turn on all the time when pushing the "on" button. Fighting with the battery cover, the batteries & trying to get them to turn on is not worth money that they want for these nail clippers, just not worth it. I had a pair & my friend got a pair & both were the same way with the same problems. Do not recommend them until they come out with an improved version that resolves these issues with them.hjflyer
I needed a dog nail clipper like this one as my dog has only two white nails and it is hard to know when to avoid the quick especially since I do not normally cut his nails. We have a patio which has a flooring that is a natural emery board but this year it has been impossible to use it so my dog's nails got insanely long. The idea behind this clipper is amazing but there is room for improvement. Here is how mine works. I turn the metal thingy to unlock it and push the button which blinks on orange but then it turns yellow then red. The first time it does not function (stays red) which is the annoying part. I have to turn it off and then it gives me green. As I place it on my dog's nail it changes color according to where it is okay to snip. My dog absolutely HATES nail cutting. He is okay with me touching his nails and massaging them but once he sees the clipper if he is awake he begins to nip and bite. So my strategy has been to catch him truly deep asleep and do the nails patiently one nail at a time (one a day if need it be). Here is another thing I would recommend the maker of this clipper is to sharpen the blades really well. They are not bad but if you are not fast enough if the nail is somewhat hard you may crush the nail. In my case it is not bad as my dog's nails long but I will not go anywhere close to the quick like some groomers do. I just want to clean them up to avoid him getting hurt cause of too curly nails. It is a slow process but I am taking my time not to hurt the guy. I wish this clipper is improved upon (hence the 4 stars) I am happy with it and although Willie wakes up startled when I snip his nail I am confident I go it right. Also a BIG HUGE thumbs up to the customer service from 1800 petmeds as they were insanely helpful when my clipper got stuck in Canada customs to the point where I was wondering if someone just decided to take it. We never had one of these used on both our cat and dog before. We’ve always just used good old fashioned dog nail clippers. Doing the nails has always been a fight because they hate having them done.Over the past year , I’ve been horrible about keeping up with their nails (totally my fault), so they’ve grown longer than they should, and so has the quick. It was suggested to me to try one of these because it’s less likely to cut their quick. I was pleasantly surprised with what came in the box. There are a couple different sand paper pieces, a (grinding piece) I and a grinding stone a well. I tried the grinding stone initially, but my dog’s nails were just too long for it. I switched it to the heavy-duty sandpaper and it worked really well.Within a few minutes I managed to get the nails down fairly close to the quick without hurting him And this is from someone who has never used a nail grinder before (nor has my dog had one used on him). I ended up rotating nails every few seconds, like the instructions said. It recommended no more than about 4 seconds per nail at a time, so we swapped back and forth between her nails until they were all done. It didn’t take long and my dog was pretty comfortable with the whole procedure, especially considering this is something we’ve never done before. The nail grinder isn’t super noisy, the clear cover has nice holes that are different sizes, depending on your dogs nails, and it keeps most of the nail dust from spraying up/out. The only complaint I have is I have no idea if the locking button is locked or not and It doesn’t really seem to make a difference if I push it in or not. I do wished the speed of the sanding wheel would go even faster then the two speeds for dogs with really thick nails. Don’t think I’ll be going back to regular nail clippers anytime soon! Parts and attachments ,are easily obtainable Safer then using a nail cutter and risking hitting the quick.
I like this gentle paw nail grinder. It's relatively quiet compared to other models out there (between my sister and I, we've tried a bunch for our dogs). I like that it's cordless, bc otherwise, I feel like it would be impossible to use. The battery placement is a little confusing, but I do like that the lid shuts tightly. It's easy to hold, and comfortable in your hand. I've tried to use this on my dog several times, even after giving her a million treats, it feels like- but she just does not like the vibration very much. I'll be able to get one, maybe 2 nails done and then she is done with it and jumps up and runs off. It's been a painstaking process to try to get them all done. I do think this is gentler and easier than using the dog nail clippers, so I would recommend it.Mrsg83
