20 Best Puppy Nail Trimmer (2024 Update)

I think my dogs'nails are too long to start with this. They hate getting their nails cut (and I hate doing it) so they've gotten beyond long. The grinder is quiet and the dogs don't seem to mind it, but it is too keep short nails short, not to trim down long nails.Tara

Used this product for the first time today and was very pleased with the results. I have had several rotary tool type nail trimmers over the years to compare. The tool was fairly quiet and the dogs did not fight like they usually do. I have always loved and trusted Dremel and this continues with the Pawcontrol trimmer. Ive bought several different dremel type nail trimmers for my dogs none have worked this good ever. I have large dogs and trimming nails is not an easy task but this files those nails fast and easy. Love this product!!blondfish

this product is made very poorly. the light will not stay lit. I have to tighten the bottom of the batteries everytime I want to use it with the light. it also does not cut my dogs nails all the way through. the clippers tore the nails the last 1/4 way through. it was very painful for my dogs and very difficult for me to use.Samantha

These were not very good quality. The blade was not sharp enough to go through my Bassets nails. The light was broken when we received them so that function wasn't useful. The blade replacement release wouldn't move so we couldn't replace the blade that came with it. And they certainly are not very heavy duty.Theresa

I bought on Amazon. I love the LED light and magnifier because I can see the blood line even in black nails. The bad reviews, either they received a defective one or they are not using it correctly. I've used these on 5 different small dog breeds and 1 large dog, and it worked equally great on all. You can buy replacement blades cheap on Amazon, but I broke my clippers trying to remove an old blade to replace it, so now I have to buy another clipper, but still cannot complain because I used my first clipper for 5 years.sharon.m

I used to buy the Millers Forge but I have been having issues getting stock of it. This is as good as the Millers Forge. In fact I think the blades stay sharper for longer. I am a dog groomer and go through nail clippers very quickly. Dog nail clippers must be sharp so that they don't crush the nail and hurt the dogs. Works as expected and clips much smoother than my last pair. Very sharp! I got the small size to use on my chihuahua and I will say that they are a bit too large to really be perfect but they still get the job done. He hatenail clipping time regardless of what I use so I just try to finish as quickly as possible. His nails are dark as well. I trim my cat's claws about once a week, and after buying a second set of these great stainless steel nail trimmers (admittedly: because I misplaced my first pair), I thought it was high time to toss in a review to let others know how nice they are. I purchased these stainless steel pet nail trimmers in the small-medium size. It has locking blades and comfortable, rubber-coated handles. One of the features that I particularly like on this set of nail trimmers is that it has a safety to help prevent injury to your pet's claws. You will still need to be mindful of avoiding the quick, of course, but the safety at least helps prevent a slip-up if your pet makes a sudden movement. The blades are extremely sharp and the reverse is spring-loaded so that once you release the locking mechanism (which is very sturdy), the blades easily come open and ready for use. The small-medium sized trimmer I purchased worked nicely for my cat, and I can see it working well for both small and medium sized dogs as well. This is like any other dremel out there. Its just a 1-2 setting tool. Its as loud as regular ones and still bothers my dog when I need to use it. It does however grid the nails down just fine and as far as I can tell dogs like it more than clippers. It uses regular sand paper bits so its nothing special. If you own a dremel just use that one, it will work better and faster with no need to spend 30 on another one, on a low setting. I would have given it a 4 star but it says its quiet which is not true. Any dremel on a 1-2 setting will sound the exact same. I recommend using a nicer one with a 3-4 setting and a grit sand paper and a fine sand paper. You will be much happier with thatllehctim787

I don’t have the 2 pack, but I this exact one in a single. This is the best dremel I have used for dogs. Not only is this the one we use at work at the veterinary clinic, I bought one for home. I do dog nail trims as a side job. My clients love the results. On high it’s quick and easy on the dogs nails. On low it’s quiet with low vibration and easy on scared dogs. The battery is easy to charge on the wall and it’s last the whole day. Love that it comes with replacement parts.katie.p

First I must let potential buyers know that this does not come with a rechargeable USB as indicated in the description. You must buy AA batteries. However, it feels very comfortable in hand, and the cap doesn't unexpectedly fall off during use. I love the red paw print button design and how this device is big enough for a better grip during use. I see NO use for the automated light though. It's not as a flashlight that scatters around the object; it's more of a straight forward line. I feel like it gets in the way sometimes during natural daylight hours to where there's a shadow towards my pup's nail. I do not understand why someone decided to put it there. LOVE IT! We have two Cavaliers with small nails and two Setters with large nails. Worked beautifully on all! Although not noisy at all, the motor running was still a sound the dogs were unfamiliar with so I let it run while giving them some favorite treats. After a couple times of that, they ignored it with the exception of one of our Setters who's skittish about ALL noises so not surprised by her reaction. Took a couple minutes for me to get used to the feel of using it and the dogs too, but then I was able to finish eat dog quickly and easily! Even our super skittish Setter settled down by the third paw which gives me hope that eventually trimming her nails might not be the battle it's been with regular clippers. The light cannot be rotated to line up with the various holes sizes which was a little disappointing but it's bright enough to shine thru the nail and "double check" how close you're getting to the quick. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to their next nail trim!!Dog Lover

I have been looking for clippers that my just one year old Golden Retriever will not jump away from. Being able to adjust how much nail is clipped at any one time is very important, and these work perfectly. I worked with him for several days playing with him while the clippers near his toes, then touching his toes, then lightly grabbing the nails with the clippers without clipping, and then finally clipping just a little at a time. He was VERY skittish at first, but as time has gone by he's getting more and more used to them, and I can clip a little more each day. It's now a daily thing, clipping only one or two nails at a time. I'm sure with more time he'll let me use these on all toes at one time without any complications. Thanks Tractor Supply!Dave 16901

I have had many problems with this unit long term. First use was wonderful, but shortly later the batteries corroded. Since then, I have cleaned all the contacts and greased and installed new batteries and all was working again. Now, the sanding disk is slipping and so does NOT grind the nails. The disk is still in good shape and I even still have the second new disk to replace it with, but they BOTH slip and do not grind the nails consistently. It is like the rubber has shrunk and doesn't hold the sanding disk secure. TOTALLY disappointing. The furminator brush is just so effective, it is SUCH a disappointment to see that the nail clipper is such poor quality and so short lived.kugiej

I am not pleased with the Furminator as the little grinding bands do not stay in place, but tend to slide down the tumbler out of reach. On the slower speeds they will stop rotating if even slight pressure is applied. I am very happy with how quiet this grinder is and I like the plastic guard. It's comfortable to hold, but it doesn't work well. I have 2 dogs, one medium size with almost clear white nails and a larger dog with dark nails.gmac

I was planning on purchasing this product, based on it being apparently approved, advertised, and sold through 1800PetMeds. After reading the reviews, which are very fee and not very positive, I have definitely changed my mind. I will continue searching other products and providers for a similar product for my dog. When I saw this available through 1800PetMeds, I definitely expected much better reviews, and a better product. Disappointed & confused. I've tried a trimmer of similar design in the past but the quality in this one is much better and I prefer using to the human nail trimmer I was using. It makes a cleaner cut and its design acts as a safety guard against cutting to the quick. The only thing that would make it better is to shorten the length of the pinky rest. There is a learning curve because of this.LadyBella

First one got here damage. Bubble wrap inside popped, asumming it bounced all around and got damage. Exchange at store, excellent customer service. First timers like me, start slow so you can get use to the grinder. It might not look like it’s grinding but it is. The higher speed will grind fast. It’s hard to tell which one is the 100 grid and which one is the 60 grid. They felt the same to me. Do not try to tighten all the way down without inserting the tip first. If you do you will push the gold holder and squeeze the holder shut which will not let you insert the tip. When you receive, simply press the button. Loosen a little more, insert the tip and tighten. Turn the power on and your set to go. Used it twice and my dogs nails are smooth. I used medium speed on my dachshund and miniature poodle and then a slower speed to shape and fine nails. For my pit bull I used a higher speed as his nails are bigger and stronger. So far so good. And yes weird set dogs but they all get along and al indoor dogs. Long story short I saved the pit bull and the dachshund and all got along great. Hope this review helps you, enjoy.Josh1824

When I started my search for a good nail grinder, I knew I needed something powerful for my newfoundland-labrador mix. He's nails are very thick. This works really well to grind them down. It's not cordless, but I think that's better. The battery-operated grinders I've used in the best will not be as powerful as the battery drains. I think this is also a really good value as I've seen similar grinders for double the price. Overall, I'm really happy with it.BrittanyG

This product worked great for the first few times I used it but then it bogged down so much that it didn't take much pressure to stop the wheel from spinning. I wasn't dirty or misused. I contacted Petco and they sent a replacement (kudos for their great customer service) but that one also stopped working after maybe half a dozen uses. I have 2 8lb dogs and their nails shouldn't be too much for a product that costs $50. I'm really disappointed in this product and now I can't get a replacement because somehow the order disappeared out of my order history so I can't prove I purchased it even though it was an online order. I have a black Pomeranian with black nails. Always had problems Cutting her nails without hitting the quick. Love these clippers. Be sure to read the directions and make sure the sensor is facing the correct direction on dogs nail. It DOES matter greatly. These are a lot more heavy duty than I need for my 2 small dogs but they do what they are supposed to. They do come with the round button batteries for the sensor and they are very easy to install.beadywhitedesigns

These nail clippers are a great idea but the product does need improvement. The clippers themselves are sharp & clip big dog nails pretty good but as for the battery & light to tell you that it is safe to clip definitely needs improvement because the battery cover keeps falling off & the little button batteries fall out , they do not snap in therefore they are loose & jiggle around which makes the lights not work properly either and they do not turn on all the time when pushing the "on" button. Fighting with the battery cover, the batteries & trying to get them to turn on is not worth money that they want for these nail clippers, just not worth it. I had a pair & my friend got a pair & both were the same way with the same problems. Do not recommend them until they come out with an improved version that resolves these issues with them.hjflyer

I needed a dog nail clipper like this one as my dog has only two white nails and it is hard to know when to avoid the quick especially since I do not normally cut his nails. We have a patio which has a flooring that is a natural emery board but this year it has been impossible to use it so my dog's nails got insanely long. The idea behind this clipper is amazing but there is room for improvement. Here is how mine works. I turn the metal thingy to unlock it and push the button which blinks on orange but then it turns yellow then red. The first time it does not function (stays red) which is the annoying part. I have to turn it off and then it gives me green. As I place it on my dog's nail it changes color according to where it is okay to snip. My dog absolutely HATES nail cutting. He is okay with me touching his nails and massaging them but once he sees the clipper if he is awake he begins to nip and bite. So my strategy has been to catch him truly deep asleep and do the nails patiently one nail at a time (one a day if need it be). Here is another thing I would recommend the maker of this clipper is to sharpen the blades really well. They are not bad but if you are not fast enough if the nail is somewhat hard you may crush the nail. In my case it is not bad as my dog's nails long but I will not go anywhere close to the quick like some groomers do. I just want to clean them up to avoid him getting hurt cause of too curly nails. It is a slow process but I am taking my time not to hurt the guy. I wish this clipper is improved upon (hence the 4 stars) I am happy with it and although Willie wakes up startled when I snip his nail I am confident I go it right. Also a BIG HUGE thumbs up to the customer service from 1800 petmeds as they were insanely helpful when my clipper got stuck in Canada customs to the point where I was wondering if someone just decided to take it. It has 4 or 5 different sized holes in the top that keep you from shaving off too much. I had never used this before and didn't want to use the clippers because I was afraid of cutting them too short. With these he'll pull away if he feels any uncomfort. I got all of his nails over a two day period and it's almost addicting. There's really no cons about this tool. If you go to fast you can smell some burning of the nails but that's only when you push too hard.Brian

Until the screw that kept the sanding band on sprung off and cracked the safe guard. I tightened the screw and it popped off again in less than a minute. i received this from influenster complimentary for me to review and give my honest opinion. First of all, I was extremely impressed and excited when i received this as my dogs are petrified to get their nails trimmed but when i opened it and plugged it in, NOTHING. I know it isn't influensters fault as they get things prepackaged, but mine came defective. It WONT turn on. Idk if there's a short in the cord itself or if something inside of it is mechanically wrong. so, I'm kind of bummed I can't review it or use it but these things happen. Maybe next time. Another great experience trying out the Conair Propet Nail Grinder. This baby is really a value! For around $35 you can trim your pets nails at home comfortably and safely. It's very simple to use and since it's ergonomically designed to be extremely lightweight, comfortable to hold and has a grip so the tool won't slip from your hand there's no fumbling around with it while your pet anxiously waits. Super light, extremely durable and feels like it's constructed with high quality materials so it should last a good while. My experience with my scariest scaredy-dog was quick and stress free because number one it's whisper quiet! Definitely high marks for that! And number two very light vibration so it won't scare the s**t out of your animal and won't tire your arm and hand out! Last but not least it has a safety guard ( it's adjustable Even! ) so as to not pull your doggos hair into the grinder while it's spinning. Very cool professional corded nail grinder by CONAIRPRO. Can be used for all size and breads. Quiet, ergonomic and powerful. Had a protective adjustable guard cover which prevents unwanted hair in rotating head. Has interchangeable stone and grinding replacements included – 2 finishing stones, 4 grinding bands, grinding drum, and wrench tool. Very easy to use but unfortunately Sam was not having us video or take pictures while doing this. Lol As you can see he is hiding his feet . After 2 nail trims it was so dull that I had to use both hands to cut a single nail. I could not hold the dogs nails steady while trying to clip with 2 hands.
