SAILOR BERRY LEMONADE
Happy Fourth of July America! Like most Americans I’ll spend the day barbecuing, drinking, and blowing things up.. ‘Merica! In addition to the Red, White, and Booze Slushies I created last week, I also wanted to whip up something classic and it doesn’t get more classic than homemade lemonade! Of course I had to put a Tattooed Martha spin on it though and added homemade raspberry syrup and a healthy dose of Sailor Jerry Rum! Kick back and enjoy a glass or two yourself while you watch the fireworks!
…..
(makes 8-10 glasses)
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 ½ cups sugar
2 cups (1lb) fresh raspberries
2 cups fresh lemon juice (6-8 lemons)
7-8 cups of cold water
1 cup Sailor Jerry Rum

Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add sugar and stir until it dissolves. Add raspberries and simmer over medium to high heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove pan from heat and let raspberries steep in the syrup for 45 minutes to an hour or until completely cooled.
By the way.. I’m looking for a new assistant. As you can see, my current one just sunbathed while I did all the work!
Add lemon juice to a large pitcher (mine were a bit smaller so I split the batch between two) and 7 cups of cold water. Strain raspberry syrup over a fine mesh sieve into pitcher and discard the solids.
Stir to mix everything together and give it a taste test. If it’s too sweet or too tart for your taste, first try adding another cup of cold water. Add 1 cup of Sailor Jerry Rum to the pitcher and stir. If you have non-drinkers around and you don’t want to spike the whole batch, you can just add 1 to 2oz of rum to a glass with about 8-10oz of lemonade in it. Serve in ice filled glasses, garnish, and serve!
**Tattooed Martha’s Fourth of July Tip:
Explosives and booze don’t mix! You might think you drink more rum than a pirate, but you don’t need to lose an eye to complete that comparison
. Sit back and enjoy the show (at a safe distance) while a ‘Designated Detonator’ handles the fireworks!
Have a safe and happy Fourth of July and as always.. enjoy responsibly! ?
