Just bought this Jig to make a Christmas present. The jig was easy to setup but the instructions lack specific detail. Thank goodness for youtube videos. The included router bits seem OK until about the 10th cut. Using the small template, the bits dull rapidly and were frustrating to deal with the excessive tear out of the wood and the burning. I was able to complete one joint that fit tight and looked great. The next joint always had poor pins and I was unable to get them to work. I won't be purchasing replacement bits from Porter-Cable due to the poor quality of the supplied. I'll be contacting Porter-Cable to determine if they would like to send replacement bits. Another improvement would be the cam lock for holding the workpiece. The plastic support on the cam lock can become damaged if due care is not exercised when tightening. Then there is the stop guides. They are positioned at both ends and don't permit travel to the middle of the jig. I'll be modifying to correct this as I would like to use small pieces working from middle not the end. Finally, it would be an added benefit if the template had more surface to support the router base. Care must be exercised when routing around the fingers as the CG of the router could tip forward causing damage to the bit or work piece. A redesign of the template would make this Jig ideal. Overall I would give 4 star for jig and 1 star for the bits.DrDave2020

I have been using the Rockler dovetail jig for several years. The set up was easy for this jig. The jig made good dovetails drawers. But I could not always get the 4 sides even on the top and bottom. Found the vertical portion of the left and right “L” shaped adjustment stops (Parts #11 in the manual) were slightly bowed and allowed the left and right sides of the drawer to tilt slightly during the set up. I ordered another set of the “L” stops from Rockler. The new parts had the same bow as the original parts. Have ordered a Porter-Cable dovetail jig as a replacement of the Rockler jig. Hopefully the P-C jig will produces a perfect dovetail joints.Edwin
This Rockler Dovetail Jig is amazing. The ability to create repeatable full and half blind dovetails quickly and accurately with this is simply awesome! The instructions are a bit lacking, but I read the instructions thoroughly(actually about three times) and then read them as I went through the process of making my first test joints of both types of dovetails. The key for me was to watch various YouTube videos that I was able to find showing different people using this jig. I did get sloppy at one point and did not wait until the router was completely stopped and ruined my pins template for anything larger than 7 inches. Fortunately, the pins template was on sale on the Rockler.com website. I also picked up the two different unique style templates from my local Rockler store. I love this jog and have made several small boxes for my wife and a few drawers for my garage using both the full and half blind dovetails. Great jig! Thanks Rockler!kirk

This is a great concept. I bought two jigs for my 10" Dewalt miter saw (DSW713) but the height of the back wall (3 7/8") is problematic and interferes with the motor housing when I try to cut pieces from the right side (either inside corner or outside corner). I am so disappointed because I need the jig to remind me which way to place the molding for different cuts! I will be returning the jigs and using the Dewalt Crown Stops instead.Monique

A carpenter will tell you that a good jig is worth its weight in gold. This is a terrific jig. It's a new system called the Kreg System and it is great for carpentry and especially furniture building and repair. It comes with drills, screws and jig attachments that makes drilling, joining and pocket hole drilling easy and effective. Now, if you're a carpenter you would probably know all it does if I listed the many projects here. If you are not than you won't understand and you must read the manual to find out. I can tell you, as a carpenter, that this is a wonderful way to join parts, pocket drill and various repair applications made easy by this new system. It's not hard to use and you just need to know how to go about using the jig and attachments. It joins solid wood and plywood. You can purchase additional items like a quick change kit, key clamps and various other items that will make your projects and repairs a lot more fun and ensure solid joint connections. The Jig is well made and fun for all. Read the enclosed manual, purchase the many items available for this jig and your projects and go at it. What you really want to know is if it's worth buying. I bought the Kreg K4 first, but ended up returning it unused because after evaluating the online reviews on the K4 and the K5, I wanted the K5 instead. The K4 is built more sturdily than the K5. On the K4, both the drill guide block and the base are built using heavy-duty (and also literally much heavier) glass-fiber reinforced nylon. On the K5, only the drill guide block is made of glass-fiber reinforced nylon. The base of the K5 is just cheaper and much lighter plastic with no glass fiber reinforcement. But the K5's base has much better fit and finish. The K4 has very poor molding fit and finish with the guide block feeling it's glued to the base once inserted into it, requiring tremendous force to get it out again. What really made me decide to get the K5 instead of the K4 is the convenience of the front operated handle on the K5. I also bought the HD (heavy duty) drill guide accessory to go with the K5 to install 2x lumber.
I have wanted a Kreg Jig for several years, but could not justify spending the money with other life expenses. I have considered purchasing a cheaper, imitation of the Kreg Jig but I have always wanted the real thing. When Walmart offered to let me review this item in exchange for an honest evaluation I was very excited and appreciative. When I received the kit, the first thing I noticed is how nicely packaged it is in a cardboard box with carrying handle. Upon opening I could tell it is a quality item made out of heavy duty plastic with steel inserts. In fact the drill guide is backed up by a lifetime warranty. Inside of the box is a starter kit that includes the drill bit, drill bit stop, and screwdriver bit for the pocket-hole screws. There is also a variety of pocket-hole screws to get you started, as well as some wood plugs. This kit also includes a dust collection attachment to keep the dust under control, and it works well. The jig is very easy to use! There is a guide built into the jig that effortlessly lets you know the depth to set your drill bit. Then all you need to do is place your 1/2” to 1 1/2” (2×4) thick material into the jig and drill your holes, using the correct holes for the width of the material. It works with both solid wood and plywood. There are various mounting options. There are holes to permanently attach the jig to your workbench. There is also a convenient cutout spot on the jig for clamping the device to a workbench. You can also use the item as a portable jig if you do not want to clamp it or permanently attach it to a workbench. When you are ready to drill, the heavy duty metal toggle clamp securely holds what your are working on. Drill the hole, drive the screw and you are done. The joints it creates are nice and strong! The Kreg Jig makes much nicer, cleaner holes compared to imitation jigs I have considered. I am currently remodeling a house that I purchased and this item will come in very handy. For accurate and repeatable tenoning operations, this is the tool. For years, I would change over to my datto set to cut tenons on the horizontal plane then manually square the shoulders. This tool eliminates all of the fuss and with minimal adjustment, all tenons are accurate and clean; furthermore, the blade change is eliminated–what a time saver. I should have purchased this jig years ago….Roy
Package arrived all mangled due to the jigs weight crushing styrofoam that was supposed to trap it inside shipping box. The guide rail that rides in my Craftsman table saw's table top didn't fit. Had to sand it to fit. Assembly instructions were confusing. Not written by someone who uses this device. A couple holes used for aligning the jig to the blade were off. It took 3 hours to set it up. After all that time, it finally worked properly. Delta is not inspecting what their Chinese manufacturer is producing.canoeman2003
