My wife and I really enjoy this game. The scoring system is clever; you either want to win very few tricks or a lot, but not too many. The number of tricks to a round mean you can't both go for the same strategy or both be successful. That all odd numbered cards have special abilities adds further depth to the strategy. The artwork is fantastic – it is what first drew me to the game. The theme is lacking, but I've never been one to require deep theme to enjoy a game.Jono

A nice version of trick taking games, with the odd numbered cards introducing opportunity for considerable to & fro in the relative strengths of the players as each turn progresses. The various ways to change the flow of play makes it much more unpredictable than ordinary Whist. The turn-scoring, where being 'greedy' can lose points rather than gain them, slides it just a fraction towards something like Spades (in which you can score strongly by getting zero tricks), and introduces a strategy whereby players may deliberately try to not win tricks. That's quite the reverse of what's normally the case, and introduces opportunity for 'clever' play. Sadly, not too bowled over by the fairy-story distractions of the game's name (six syllables) or the 'story' within the guide. Game-play has not truly got any relevance to the 'story', & I spent the first few minutes wondering if I'd overlooked something important.Peter

We love love this game for our 5 year old and just got it for one of her friends (it's a hit all around). It's like Clue but for kids and encourages detailed observation of which fox might be guilty of stealing the pie. It incorporates some counting as well, but overall, it's just fun and cooperative (everyone wins or everyone loses). Love this game so much.Heidi

This is seriously the most fun kids game I've played with our kids in a long time. It's an incredibly clever game that teaches mad deduction and memory skills. We've played it many times with our kids, and it has yet to get old. The replay value is very high as each game is different. It's almost like a kids version of Clue. Outfoxed is a cooperative game where each player is a detective working together to catch the sneaky fox who stole a pie. There are 16 suspects placed around the board face down. Each turn, a player may choose to search for a clue (if she lands on a paw print) or reveal suspects. If revealing suspects, she turns over two of the 16 suspects which then exposes certain characteristics of that suspect. Searching for a clue is the fan favorite. You get to place a clue marker into the super cool decoder. It then tells you whether the thief is wearing that particular item like a monocle, an umbrella, a scarf, a bag, and more. If you have enough information to rule out any of the visible suspects, you get rid of them and are that much closer to figuring out who the real culprit is! The element of luck comes into play when you need to match all three dice to the declared action you plan to take. If you don't roll well, the fox gets closer to his escape hatch. If he escapes, everyone loses! This game is great at teaching kids memory and deduction. When we were first teaching our kids, whenever they would expose a new clue, we would say, "Is the thief wearing gloves?" (based on the decoder results), then, "Is Mary wearing gloves?" (based on an exposed suspect), followed up with, "Then can Mary be the thief?" They would answer each question with a yes or no which led them down a basic, three-step deduction sequence. Pretty quickly, we could just say, "Okay, what do you need to do?" And they would either leave the suspect or get rid of the suspect depending on the clue. There's a fun game we like to play at parties where each person draws the name of a different person in the room. You then have to remember each "new" name to strategically get three people on your team into the designated winner spots. It is really hard playing consecutive games because you have to wipe your short-term memory clean and start over each game because everyone's fake names are different. I found that to be the case on a much smaller scale with Outfoxed. For the first portion of a second or third game, our kids would often give clue answers from the previous game because that's what they had downloaded into their memory bank. However, while this presented a small challenge, challenges are how kids learn and develop, especially when it comes to memory. Overall, I give Outfoxed a very high 8.5 as a family game that is fun, that teaches skills, that is interactive and cooperative, and that has a very high replay value. As a very random side note, I like how Gamewright has you choose who goes first. Outfoxed says the person who last ate pie goes first. I've seen others that say the person who last played tag or whoever most recently used dental floss. Adults may see this as silly, but kids love it!Braden

My 4.5 year old grandson loves board games and working together against a fox is much healthier than a traditional win or lose game with peers. This game has lots of learning strategies and thinking skills. He has learning to organize the pieces so nothing gets lost. Best part is he loves to play Outfoxed.Janet

I purchased this game under the advice of my teenage siblings while they were visiting me and this really helped break the ice between the family. We aren’t big on family time or playing games time but this really gave us a fun family activity while they were visiting me. Every time with play this with friends, they end up buying the game as well. The party pack is a little more expensive but has more variety for play, especially with bigger groups. You can use the cards marked one way for groups of 4 or less, cards marked the other way for groups of 5-7 and all the cards for groups of 8-10. It was worth the extra money for this version, as we have used it with all the sizes of groups and really wanted to be able to use it with extended family. The smaller pack doesn’t work for larger groups, so in my opinion, this one is the way to go. Buy it now, play later and try not to EXPLODE!M

The card game, 3UP 3DOWN, comes with two packs of cards and each pack contains 42 cards. If there are just two players, the game goes much quicker with just one pack. My wife and I started playing the game by using just one pack (42 cards) to learn how the game is played. Even though a very detailed paper instruction pamphlet comes with the game, it still seems a little confusing when brand new at the game. There is also a website with a video of people playing the game with voice-over instructions which helped us understand the game a little better than using the written instructions alone. Even though the video is very helpful, I think it would be better to see the people in the video doing their "discards and pickups" slower to full understand exactly what they are doing. I also think the video intends to show what a fast-paced game it can be, but you'll figure that out as soon as you start playing. The goal of the game is to be the first one finished with no cards left! The first day we played the game, we used just the one pack and we caught on rather quickly and the game would go faster with every game we played. We played for over two hours and the time flies as it is a fun card game where you need to strategize and make good decisions if you want to win! The next day we played the game with both packs (84 cards) and the game took a little longer with more cards, but we knew exactly what we were doing and could make our decisions faster. I like how you can think you are ahead and feel like you're going to win, but still lose to your opponent in the end due to the "luck of the draw" so to speak. I like how this is a family-friendly game that children aged 7 and above can also play and have fun. I can't wait to introduce our 11 year old grandson to this card game as he will love it. The card game can be played with 2 to 6 players. The cards are plastic-coated and seem like they will last a very long time.SATDon

My son, grandson, and I had a little trouble understanding the directions. For the first hand we talked our way through. By the end of the hand all was good and my grandson wanted to play again, so we did… six more times! And the next day and the next often laughing out loud at someone’s luck or lack of it. It is a game that even a fairly young child could learn and even we old folks can enjoy. There is a little strategy to it, but mostly luck. It is very fast moving. The cards are brightly colored, a good size to hold on your hand, with big easy to read numbers in both directions so no need to turn them to view. The cards seem to be good quality and are plasticized so you can wash off that popcorn or chocolate smears! I think we will be enjoying this game for many yearsNaturegrandma

My family loves playing board and card games. I was very excited to review this game too. It’s not very difficult to learn. The given instructions maybe a bit confusing, so I watched a YouTube video before playing. This game is a good balance between strategy and luck and will keep you involved. These cards are of good quality and don’t stick or bend easily. My family enjoyed this game thoroughly that I am thinking of buying a couple of more packs. Although I haven't had chance to play specific recipes yet, the selection of cards from the various expansions makes for a hilarious game. The increase in action cards means that players can have a more tactical game, rather than constant cat card plays and stealing cards. My first game after getting this set I played one of the only random card steals of the game- only to pick an exploding kitten from a player with the streaking kitten. I was a little disappointed at the lack of extra 'favour' cards, but it doesn't impact the fun of the game. From the looks of it, this box is only missing a couple of new cards from the expansions (not including Zombie kittens, which came out later), making it a great value set.Michael B.

Excellent edition that includes all the best cards from previous Exploding Kittens releases and a variety of new deck "recipes" for a change in gameplay for experienced players. The box also includes a storage tray for arranging and storing your cards (I had room to also include the cards from previous editions I had purchased). This brought my 4th graders together during recess! kids who normally play separately joined in and had so much fun! I genuinely had fun, too! It's fast paced and kids can join in after any round. They learned super quick. Its like a more kid-friendly version of the game Pit. Such a win!!Grace

As soon as I got home with this my children begged to play it. A few neighbors came over and I played it with two 5-year-olds, one 8-year-old and a 9-year-old. Everyone had a blast! It was the perfect game to entertain active kids with attention spans that arent quite ready for long strategic games. Our friends brought this over for our game night last night, and it was the biggest hit! There were 8 of us playing with 2 toddlers just watching the madness. Lol! It is the best party game ever! This may not be the most polite game in the world, but it is good for a few laughs. The rules are simple and play moves quickly. I was impressed with the sound quality of Guster. He sounds like a hilarious whoopie cushion. I was surprised how how varied his noises were. This game made my daughter laugh a lot. I'm not sure about the longevity of this game. Results are mostly determined by randomness, but I can see us pulling it out of the closet for a few games for the next few months at least.Velcro

I have a 6- and 8-year-old. This game is more for my 6-year-old and even then she's probably already aged out of it (game says age 5+). I think this game would be great for a preschooler to practice counting and as an intro to card games. The problem we had for this game was that we couldn't tell if the car was crashing. Some were obvious crashing sounds and some were ambiguous. We also didn't know if the cards should face up or down. We later decided to face them down (directions not clear). I wasn't too sure what to make of Gas Out at first, not being a particular fan of toilet humour, however, with a 9 year old son, and 6 year old daughter, I knew it would appeal to them, and actually, the game itself was a lot of fun to play together as a family. Really simple to set up and play straightaway, (I love the quick release clamps to remove the gas cloud from the box and the fact that it came with batteries!). Simple instructions, easy for the children to understand. Basically you each get 3 cards from the deck, you take it in turns to select a card, then do as instructed by your card (either press the gas cloud however many times your card states, skip a go, or reverse the order in which each player takes their turn), if the gas cloud farts, you're out, the winner is the last person left in the game. The children got quite animated waiting to see who would get 'farted out'. A quick and easy game to play together as a family, or for the kids to play together by themselves.the7baylisses

If you are a firefly fan this is a must have. The base game and all expansions are awesome. Set up can take awhile and game play is over 2 hours. Well worth it though and super fun.erin.w

Fun game, challenging, Took a little bit to learn as there were no good videos to learn from online, but i managed to piece it together playing 4 characters by myself in order to grasp it all without anyone else confusing matters. That being said, once one person has it mastered, it is easy to teach. Played with my wife – 2 characters each, was OK but needs 4+ separate players or its not that good.Micah

I was excited to get this game for an upcoming family vacation. Received it today, left the box on the table, then went to a movie. Couldnt find it when we got back. Seems our husky did, though. Tore the damn thing to shreds. Timer is unusable, thanks to bite marks, but I did rescue a fair amount of cards. Dont have the heart right now to pony up another $18, but maybe something is salvageable. Damn dog!T.K.

My kids (ages 13, 16, 19) played many rounds of this game and while it was pretty fun, they had to take out a LOT of cards since they were all about sports teams. That is something of which my daughters have little knowledge. The game seemed geared more towards males or at least sports lovers. There were no 'female' themed questions, such as brands of makeup… at least not in the rounds they played. I would not recommend this game for daughters who are not heavily into college or professional sports. While I know some females LOVE sports, my daughters don't fit into this category.Donna

Oh, man…I bought this deck to lure my dad (who has dementia) out of his rigid routine and engage/stimulate his mind. I was hoping it would be a good way to bond and also enrich his monotonous days a little bit. It was such a hit, I can’t even tell you. It sits on the kitchen table and he asks to “play that game.” Although he has a lot of trouble with his short term memory, he’s able to reflect and answer a lot of the questions using his long term memories, which are still very sharp. He got a little emotional a couple times, but seemed to enjoy having an opportunity to be willingly vulnerable on his own terms instead of the standard vulnerability that he faces on a daily basis (that’s beyond his control). I docked it by one star because he said a couple times that some of the questions seemed like they weren’t applicable to people who are in their sunset years. On future decks, I’d suggest looking at the content a bit harder thru a multi-generational lens.Mandy P.
